According to an analysis of diesel fuel pricing from the Energy Information Administration by Longbow Research analyst Lee Klaskow, diesel fuel declined 1.8% from last week.  “Diesel prices have now fallen by roughly 45.1% from the July 14 peak of $4.764 per gallon, and are 23.4% below the same period last year, Mr. Klaskow said.  “The decline in average prices represents the 23rd sequential decline in the last 27 weeks and the fifth consecutive week of year-over-year contraction following over 14 months of increases.”  He added, “We continue to believe that moderating diesel prices are creating somewhat of a near- term tailwind for truckers due to marginally lower fuel costs and the 1-2 week lag in their fuel surcharge recovery programs. We do not believe these lower fuel prices will spur any increase in consumer spending over the near term.” Mr. Klaskow rates trucking companies Con-Way, J.B.
